“Sing Out Asia Live in Tokyo @ Nihon Seinenkan”: June

It was a cloudy day on June 15th which is not bad as a rainy season. We had N’JAMI and Jim Rock Singers from Okinawa, Julianne from The Philippines, Lala from Indonesia, Art from Thailand, and Lang from Laos. Due to the immigration policy of Japan, It was not easy to bring the artist from South East Asia. We had Mr. Issei Koga, the Diet member of Democratic Party, to help us on this matter.

June 15th, our first concern was the audience but nearly 900 people showed up which almost filled up the first floor of the theater. Second was reputation of the show. After the show, we received heartfelt compliments from so many people. This led us to the confidence that the show was a great success. This proved that the taste of Mr. Yasunori Soryo, the over all producer and also the founder of N’JAMI and Jim Rock Singers, is first class.

Our live show in Tokyo was made into an 8 minute special TV by Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting of Okinawa to be on air in Okinawa & Kyushu region. We also have NHK special TV staff to interview us as a long-term project. Julianne from the Philippines took the breath of the audience with her beautiful music. She has won the most prestigious music prize in the Philippines, “The Awit Awards” in November 2008.

Lala from Indonesia is singing both in the Philippines and Indonesia and very popular. Lang from Laos is also getting popular among Thai young generation, often shows up on Thai TV.

“Cross Culture Tour”: March

Having 8 students from Japan, we visited Hanoi (Vietnam), Bangkok, North Thailand (Thailand), and Vientiane (Laos). Some students had extended their stay and visited Penang Island, Malaysia. “

Cross Culture Tour” is aimed to extend the interest of Japanese youth to Asia and also to create a long lasting friendship among the Asian youth. Students from “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Faculty of Japanese” (Vietnam-Hanoi) hosted us to visit Halon Bay, Tamcoc, Hoa Lu, Arcadia village. We also had several gatherings for cultural exchange.

We had 28 students from various Asian countries to join the 2 days “Cross Culture Leadership Camp” in North Thailand, Khon Kaen City. We started to learn about communication skill and play simulation game called “Baha Baha” which was invented in America aimed to see “how people can adopt to other culture”.

28 students includes Vietnam Hanoi University (5), National University of Laos (4), National University of Cambodia (1), Graduate School Student from Bhutan (1), Thai Royal Chulalongkorn University (4), Thai Royal Police Academy (4), Japan Ritumeikan University Thai student (1), Japanese Student (8).

After the Camp we spent some time in Vientiane the capital of Laos and at the beach of south Thailand.

Although, friendship between all the youth has grown through out the two days “Cross Culture Leadership Camp”, it was a big surprise to see the energy of joy and hope from all 28 participants even before the event starts.
